You’d Be Rich if You Really Wanted to Have Lots of Money

“You’re poor because you don’t really care about having money.”

Folding my arms across my chest, I sigh dramatically. I’m irritated by my family member’s comment, and I disagree that money isn’t a priority. Frustrated, I explain that I’m doing my best to get by in the trailer park after life has repeatedly knocked me down.

“That’s not what I mean,” she says.

Confused, I ask her to explain. We discuss money for a bit, and I realize her initial statement was correct. I don’t want to be rich badly enough to actually become rich. Prior to our chat, I mistakenly believed money mattered to me more than it actually does.

Here’s what I learned from our conversation:

1) If you truly wanted to be rich, you’d make it happen — no matter what

Before you yell at me, please know this isn’t a lecture about how you should pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work harder in life. It’s a story about choices, both good and bad.
