Sometimes when people realize someone homeless has a job, their solution is to say they need a better job.

Many years ago, I was classified as homeless because I lived in a hotel. I worked full-time — more than full-time, actually — but still couldn’t afford any rentals in the area. I didn’t have a car, and I lived in a city with no public transportation. I had a GED, no computer, and no Internet, so work-at-home jobs and online courses weren’t really an option either.

I eventually got out of the hole I was in, but I was irritated by the judgement and unhelpful advice I received from so many people.
