I'm not sure if this is helpful advice, but I was able to get daily phone calls added to my autistic son's IEP last year at his request. Each day, the school let him call me for 15 minutes. Sometimes he used FaceTime instead of calling, but he usually preferred regular calls. The school allowed either type of communication, and it was scheduled for a set time each day so it wouldn't disrupt his routine.

Anyway, he did the calls for a year and then one day decided he didn't need them anymore because he felt more comfortable at school. They stopped about 1.5 months ago.
