I Stopped Following a Popular Writer After They Broke a Promise

I know why you’re here.

You clicked on this article hoping I’ll name the writer or leave enough clues for you to figure out who it is. I won’t, at least not intentionally.

I don’t want any drama. I just want to explain why some people —myself included — stop reading the work of other writers.

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

For years, I followed a popular writer on this platform. I enjoyed reading their well-written, engaging stories. This well-known writer is intelligent and interesting, and I’ve often wondered what they’re like in person.

One day, I had the chance to connect with this writer on social media. So exciting!

A few weeks later, we interacted in a thread with several other creators. During this conversation, the writer made a promise, and I expected them to keep it. After all, they had a reputation for being trustworthy and honest.

It’s been nearly a year. This writer has not kept their word.

This bothers me more than it should.

Honesty is important to me. I don’t like when people lie to me or other writers. Broken promises are…
