“You should sell these,” a friend said, gesturing toward my gluten-free peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.

“Eh, maybe one day,” I responded. I wasn’t sure how well gluten-free cookies would do if I sold them in our area. People who follow a gluten-free diet get a lot of hate sometimes.

Besides, I had other work that I needed to finish first. At the time, I had overcommitted to writing projects and had no idea how I’d finish them all. I was nearing burnout and needed a break.

I ended up getting the break I needed, but not by choice.

“Have you hit your head recently?” the doctor asked. I had just failed a test where she had me touch my nose and follow her fingers.

Shaking my head, I replied, “No, I didn’t think so.”

My doctor stared at me in surprise and asked, “Are you sure? You’re having a lot of neurological symptoms. If you don’t have a head injury, you may have an autoimmune disorder. I’m also concerned about a possible stroke.”

She had me call a friend and go straight to the ER, where I spent thousands of dollars for emergency medical workers to say I was having a panic attack. A few…
