You can’t bring scissors into the building. I didn’t realize that before I arrived.

“I’m parked several blocks away. What am I supposed to do with these?” I asked. I wasn’t about to toss my essential coupon-clipping tool.

The guard shrugged, then whispered, “Hide them in the bushes. That’s what everyone does.”

I followed his instructions, then returned for a trip through the metal detector. This time I made it through with no problems.

I brushed my hair in the bathroom, smoothing it into a classy chignon. It was important to look polished and professional today. After leaving the bathroom, I scanned the crowded hall for a dark-haired man in a suit.

He spotted me first, and I gasped in surprise when he tapped my shoulder. “Sorry to scare you,” he said gently. “Are you ready?”

I nodded nervously, and we entered the room together. It was time.

Can you tell a story in 150 words or less? I decided to try after learning about Oren Cohen’s 30 Day Medium Writing Challenge — today is day #4 for me. Today’s prompt was “let’s write about a place without naming it.” Do you recognize the place referenced in my post?
