Agreed. Medium is different than other sites with paid subscribers because we are a community - or we try to be, at least. It’s almost like social media for writers. People make friends here and sometimes even fall in love. I want to pay the $5 fee and support others.

I’ve seen some arguments that $5 is a lot for some people. Well I’m a single mom with chronic health problems who lives in a trailer park and I can afford the $5. However, I realize there are writers in worse situations than mine who don’t even have an extra penny let alone $5. Maybe Medium could offer scholarships for writers who truly can’t afford it. I’d be happy to contribute to that.
