8 Essential Tips for Parents Home Schooling Kids During the Pandemic

Parents across the nation are struggling right now. On Thursday, April 9, 2020, Mike Parson, the governor of Missouri, announced that public and charter schools will not resume this school year. Numerous other states have followed — or perhaps inspired — his lead as they fight to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.

As a result, moms and dads have been forced into educator roles, and many parents find their new responsibilities overwhelming. They started with good intentions, of course, but the crushing uncertainty of a pandemic is enough to derail anyone’s aspirations. Over the last few weeks, I’ve watched Facebook posts transition from Pinterest-worthy projects and “Hey, this homeschooling thing is actually kinda fun” to anxiety-filled pleas for help.

Their worries haven’t gone unnoticed. “My heart really feels like parents are going to need help with this,” explains Marie Keen, a Life Coach and founder of I Am Good Seed. As a mom of 4, plus several bonus children, Marie understands the challenges many parents face while homeschooling during a pandemic.

I talked to Marie about the challenges I face in my own home as well as those of others, and she offered these helpful suggestions:
