8-Bit Christmas is the Best Holiday Movie Since Home Alone

Christmas movies aren’t as good as they once were. I’ve tried to get into recent releases like Home Sweet Home Alone only to be disappointed. My kids weren’t big fans of the latest Home Alone remake, either.

“It’s a bad movie because they focused on the adults instead of the kids,” my son explained why I asked why he didn’t like Home Sweet Home Alone.

After watching 8-Bit Christmas, I understand what he meant.

The original Home Alone movie worked because it focused on the perspective of young Kevin, who was played by Macaulay Culkin. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York worked for the same reason. Adults and kids empathized with Kevin’s plight and rooted for his victories.

Home Sweet Home Alone revolved around two adults’ adventures with a splash of childhood fun thrown in the mix. It made the movie less enjoyable. The characters were okay, but nobody was super likable, nor were there any clear-cut villains. If I wanted to watch two parents act like idiots, I’d sit outside and listen to my neighbors argue.

8-Bit Christmas didn’t have these flaws. This holiday hit features an all-star cast that kids and grownups will likely recognize, including Steve Zahn, the dad from Diary of a
